Does body building effect growth for teens?

I'm 16 and want to start body building, but will it affect my body from growing taller? I still want to grow taller, but I also want to have a better body and to stay fit, so I want to go to the gym. What types of weights or postures or positions should I avoid to prevent affecting my boding from growing taller?

  1. You are starting late. You should have started two years ago. If you are training for sports, you are behind. It will not affect your height unless you are carrying cars around on your back. Get on it with bench presses, squats, curls, etc.
  2. it's a big misconception. nothing wrong about getting fit....just dont take those creatine supplements when ur a teenager. just do it naturally with regular trips to the gym and good protein diet. eat carbs before pumping iron and protein after...cheers!
  3. No, body building does not affect growth. They are not related. Your weight trainer should advise you the proper technique to do weight lifting. It is important that you follow these rules for a good development. Congratulations, you are starting this so young. It is the right time to start thinking along these lines. Wish you all the best. Are you going to have a competitive body building regimen or are you just interested in looking better? (and attract some chicks too.....right?) Well, whatever your motive is, you will thank yourself for starting early.
  4. I grew from 6' 0" to about 6' 5" from age 16 to 18. If I hadnt been lifting weights, I would have been a beanpole. Workout, lift weights and do it hard because you need to add mass to those muscles which are stretching out and getting skinny! Do NOT do steroids. Teens that did steroids didnt not develop correctly.
  5. I'm not sure which positions, etc you should stay in. But my brother body-builds and he's your age he just got stretch marks around his body. He's 6 feet .It did'nt affect his height in anyway .
