What are some good workouts that I can do to get conditioned for tennis?

I do not live near a tennis court, I can't drive yet, and my parents work. And, My driveway is not perfectly flat. but I do have a coldesack or however u spell it, but that's not flat either. and I do have a deck. I would also like stretches and toning and strengthening workouts too. also... do you think u could give me a good schedule?

  1. Definetly press ups and sit ups, maybe some running (short sprints), jogging. Skiing uses the same muscles as tennis, so anything like that would help.
  2. You should start with some distance running; keep in mind that footwork is incredibly important and being able to run quickly to balls while your opponent is dragging can make the difference in the match. You should try to run a couple miles 3 times a week. Stretching is important; the basics I do before playing is calf, quad, shoulder and back. You could also do some sprint drills on the court to improve your footwork. Start in the doubles alley, sprint to and touch the net, backpeddle to the service line, shuffle to the midway point, sprint to the net on the line dividing the 2 service boxes, backpeddle to the service line, shuffle to the other doubles alley, sprint to the net, backpeddle to the baseline. If you can, shuffle across the baseline to the original doubles alley and repeat. This is a standard and excellent footwork drill.
  3. Any excercise is good for tennis. Push Ups, Sit Ups, Pull Ups, Running, Elbows and Toes (or whatever is is called), Wall Sits, and medicine ball stuff is all good.
