Body building, how can I avoid harms caused by that?
I'm 19 year old and I want to start body building. But I heard that some practices could harm the body. What suggestion do you have for me?

- огые listen to your body, don`t overwork yourself, DO NOT EVER use steroids, be careful not to sprain or dislocate anything
- Talk to your doctor. Ask him what would be acceptable, and how much body building he thinks you can handle safely without too many health hazards. Also speak to other Body Builders and see what they suggest, and compare it with what the doctor says, if in doubt, ask your doctor if something is safe. You can always ask people on here or talk to the family doctor about things. Don't get too carried away however, and stay away from supplements that claim to help build your muscle fast. None of those funny protein shakes or anything like that. If you DO feel the need for one of those type products, ask your doctor if he thinks it's safe. Finally, STAY AS FAR AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN ***AWAY*** FROM STEROIDS!!!!!! Do NOT take steroids under any circumstance. They're dangerous. Unless you have a medical problem that would cause your doctor to prescribe them, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT STEROIDS! Body Building isnt a bad thing, just don't get too carried away, or you'll regret it when you reach middle to old age.
- Steroids are obviously a big no-no. Learn about nutrition. Most bodybuilders/powerlifters go for a diet of 40% protien, 40% carbs and 20% fat. You need all three to develop muscle and be healthy. If you decide to compete, learn about the proper way to diet before competition. Beware of supplements! The are unregulated and may contain things that you don't want in your body. Don't abuse supplements either. I know a lot of guys who take way too much creatine. Don't always trust the label. Learn how to exercise properly. Using machines is a good way to start. it helps you learn the proper form. When you start with free weights, start light until you know the proper form. Doing an exercise wrong with too much weight is a great way to damage joints. Hire a trainer to help you out in the beginning if you want. Don't show off. Lots of people get injured by showing off to their buddies/other people in the gym. You don't look very cool trying to do that 300lb bench press if the bar lands on your chest.... Work out with a buddy who's at least as strong as you are. Bodybuilding requires you lift a lot of weight, you need a spotter. If you don't have one, learn how to use the equipment so you don't need one. Remember, it takes a lot of hard work and some guys are hard-gainers. Some get huge quickly. Don't fall for the get big quick schemes. They tend to shrink some important parts!
