If you saw your neighbor jumping rope in the laundry room around 5 a.m. in the morning, what would you think?
I can't afford a gym membership or fitness equipment right now. I also live above an elderly woman, who is very noise conscious, so exercise tapes for cardio is out of the question. Thus, I plan to jump rump for my cardio each morning, and train with free weights at home. Winter is coming, so I can't jump outside, nor would I want to be that visible anyway. So I'm planning to jump rope in the building laundry room early in the morning before most people wake up. The floor is concrete, and it's very large, spacious, and well lit. I'm sure someone may walk in on me at least once before the year is over, though it's unlikely at the crack of dawn(around 5 a.m.). What would you think if you found out your ADULT neighbor was jumping rope in the laundry room before the birds woke up? LOL
There are also windows and a waiting area in the laundry room, so it's not isolated and dark like most basement laundry areas.
I'm also carrying extra weight, so I'm sure it will be a sight to see. :)

- personally i would think you were great for having the dedication to exercise at 5 am!!! go for it and who cares what others think
- I would only wonder if you were naked....
- I would just think it was an exercise-conscious person and I'd be envious that I can't motivate myself to do the same thing when I wake up in the morning..
- I would think" what the hell am I doing looking in the laundry room @ 5:00" LOL
- I would think htat you were working out. I dont think that anyone would find it odd at all. Don't worry about it and dod what you have to do to get your work outs in!
- KEEP IT UP. THAT IS SO COOL.
- who cares what anyone thinks, you need to do it for you so you can be healthy. if someone does happen to walk in, just smile and say hi.. they will obviously see that you are doing a work out and will forget about it moments later when they leave. maybe they will be surprised to see you, but it won't impact their life, and it shouldn't impact yours.
- I would think my neighbor cared about his/her health, and try to take care of themselves. You should check with the apartment management first though. It's their opinion that really counts.
- I would think that they are health conscious.
- That's no more bizarre than someone running in place or jogging.
- I would probably laugh a little, but a little explanation from you would suffice.
- God for the neighbor!! I would do the same if I had a laundry room!!
- Who knows? You might start your own workout group. There might be others who will get motivated. I am generally out in the Kroger/Walgreens parking lot at 3:45 am. I have to be at work by 6:00 am. I think it would be great. Go for it!!! If I can be of further assistance, let me know. pktull@yahoo.com http://www.geocities.com/pktull
- When I first read the subject of your question, I thought you were talking about a neighbor YOU saw doing it, and that you wondered if it was weird. My immediate impulse was to tell you that the neighbor probably wanted to exercise in an enclosed area before work with a decent surface, and didn't want to bother any neighbors with the noise. So, I think anyone who saw you would think the very same thing.
- if you want to jump-rope then do it. It only looks childish if the jumprope is bright pink with little streamers coming out of it. go for it. I think its good that that lady is exercising!
- Were they naked?
- Here's the thing: You didn't say whether you actually know HOW to jump rope, and I can tell you that doing it for cardiovascular fitness is not as easy as it looks. So I hope you don't do a face plant on the concrete floor and need assistance at the crack of dawn. Just a thought. Otherwise, just do it. And good for you! *
- i would think he is trying to get in shape. Good luck and go for it
- i would probaly think you are a busy guy who has to do laundry while cramming in a workout
- I would not think it was odd at all. I would simply think they were exercsing and good for them!!!
- I would think that you have the determination to succeed at what you are doing. That you are so secure within yourself that you don't care what others may think about you. You are very motivational. You are going to do doubt bit the bulge. KUDOS and hats off to you!
- I would think that person is working out and is polite enough not to wake neighbors in an apartment complex... not much else.
- Before I opened up your question and saw the full explanation, I was going to say that I would think the person didn't have the money for expensive gym memberships or exercise equipment and that he/she was really dedicated to be up that early exercising. GOOD FOR YOU! I wish you all the best and think that what you're going to do is great. I hope your neighbors support you and cheer you on.
- I'm sure it'll be alright but if the apartment manager has anything to say about it you may have to find some other solution or see if they will set up an exercise room for everyone to use.
- I would think that you were a nice and well excircized person. I'd probley come the next morning with my own jump rope. :]
- You shouldn't worry about what people think at least you are doing some kind of exercise and you are being considerate of your neighbors.
- I would think that it's your business where you want to exercise. And if my curiosity got the best of me,then I would ask why are you doing that,at that time of the morning. After I heard you're explanation,I would think that you are a very considerate neighbor, and then I would feel guilty, that I don't exercise at all. I think that is very nice of you,and I do admire your determination to work-out despite the circumstances. And with winter on the way besides.I would only want to say,PLEASE,PLEASE,be careful.Be aware of your surroundings, and keep a cell phone, and a can of pepper spray. That time of the morning, allot of crime happens. Also if you have a neighbor, that you could let know what you are doing, then they could maybe keep an eye out for you.God bless you,and good luck!!!
- I would say great job girl! keep it up...you do what you can do in your situation....you know what? I did the same! jumping in the laundry room ! We used to live in the apartment (upstairs) so only resolution for me was to jump the rope in the laundry room! Really! I wasn't shame at all! I know many people exercise in the laundry rooms...:-)) they dont won't to disturb others privacy..there is nothing abnormal about that at all.
- That sounds like a good plan, just BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Please watch everything and I mean everything, anything can happen. Tell someone that you trust that you are doing this too. Because the floor is concrete be sure to wear some good padded shoes to protect your knees and back. Free weights are great, it sounds like a good workout, remember your abs too. Remember in order to get a benefit you need 20 minutes or more of continuous moving, as your body starts to burn fat after 20 minutes.
- first though...can i join you? I am getting fat again and i was wondering if that is a good plan. I am 13 5'3.5 inches and 105 lbs. Would that really help? I'm falling back into my ana tendencies. I exercise 3.5 hours 5 days a week and 1.5 one day and i rest one day and eat anywhere from 0 to 1500 calories.
