used fitness equipment knowledge base
Cleaning used fitness equipment? I just bought a used weight bench with the lower body attachment (for quad and hamstring). And those things have the foams on it, right... Anybody have any suggestions on how to clean those foams in place (can't be removed from the metal)? Afterall, it is used... (sweats and other icky stuffs =P) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What is the best home fitness equipment to purchase for daily use? I'd like something that i can actually get a work out with while whatching my favorite shows. I want something decent and not an outragous price. Main thing i want something i can stick to and that will give me a workout. I'm female so i'm looking to work out the lower part of the body more then anything!
I would like to know what equipment has to be purchased to use Wii fitness? I've been looking at these items for sale, the Wii fitness boards with remote and I've noticed that the packaging has the information: "does not include console". So how do you use Wii fitness? I viewed the videos and understand that the board is for doing the exercise, and at the same time, viewing your progress on your TV. However, how do you hook up your TV to view the fitness program? Is it because you have to buy the console first? Regards,
why does the equipment in a fitness studio need electricity? Is there a good reason the person using it can't produce the electricity via a small electrical generator? Why can't users of a fitness studio through their activity not produce enough electricity to run the electrics for the whole building? Or at least of the piece of equipment one is using?
How do you clean home fitness equipment? I have a recumbent stationary bike for home use, and it stinks! There is no removable parts to wash. I assume the smell is in the seat and back and the grip things on the handles, but dont know what to do to remove it.
Do you use any office fitness equipment?? Does anyone sit on a stability ball at work? (does it work, or is it annoying?) Also, does anyone use one of those little mini steppers or bicycle pedals for under the desk? do they stay put? thy seem like they dont weigh much and would move as you pedaled. Any other suggestions on office workouts??? THANKS!
Need recommendations for fitness equipment: yoga, pilates, stretching? I want to install a small home gym in a 9.5 x 11.5 room (8' ceiling) on my second floor. The purpose of this is two-fold: I need to lose weight, and I need to regain strength and flexibility. I was thinking of installing a ballet bar or parallel bars and buying a new or used Total Gym (for pilates). What do you all think? Anyone have experience with Total Gym? Any recommendations on an alternative piece of equipment?
How do I start a realistic fitness program with the limited equipment at my apartment building's gym? All my gym has is: One leg press machine One bench press machine that can be adjusted to do a shoulder press. One Lat pulldown machine that also has a bottom pulley for lat rows. One stationary bike One elliptical thing One treadmill That's it. No freeweights. How do I get started with a good strength training/fitness program that doesn't suck, using just these resources, that I can stick with? What should the program consist of? How many times a week? How many reps? How do I adjust the program as I get fitter? If it matters, I'm male, 30, 6'1", and 185 pounds of flab. I can do about 10 pushups and 1 pullup. resting pulse 76 bpm.
Best Fitness Equipment for the home? I've just had my elliptical trainer collapse into a heap on me after 2 years of heavy use. Looking to replace it with another elliptical or any other cardio machine. Rowing Machine? Versa Climber? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what will give me an excellent calorie burn, toning and easy to maintain?

Help choosing at home fitness equipment, please? Hello, I would like to purchase something to use inside this winter to get my cardio done. I have a treadmill, I'm looking at the elliptical trainers as an alternative? Which would be better, one of those or a stationary bicycle? I am looking to get the most work out for the hour I do each morning. Thanks to all in advance.
Fitness equipment at the Y? I am 16 and I just signed up at my local YMCA. I was wondering what kind of equipment I should use if I want to work my triceps, biceps, abs, calves, thighs, and shoulders. Also, the number of repetitions and how frequently I should go. Thanks.
24 hour fitness equipment... Leg press/squat equipment or stairmaster.? I hate the StairMaster. I don't use it. Instead I use the leg press/squat equipment. Anyway my question is, can I achieve the same results i would if I used the StairMaster? Last night at the gym I saw this lady on the stairmaster for at least an hour. Sorry can't do it but more power to her. FYI I do get my cardio.
Anyone have any knowledge or experience with elliptical fitness equipment? My treadmill that I used for 30 minutes a day has finally given out. It did a very good job of toning my legs and butt area. Now, I want to go a step further and start toning my arms also. I'm looking at elliptical fitness equipment. I'm not in great physical shape but I have developed an endurance. I am able to walk at a fast pace for thirty minutes. Would an elliptical trainer be a bit to much for someone like me? I've been looking at a Norditrack. Ive read if you're going to buy one you want a good one. What do you think?
Fitness Equipment? Does anyone own the gazelle glider, made by Tony Little and if so where did you purchase it in Canada preferably.also has anyone seen any weight lose over time of using this piece of equipment.
Fitness equipment questions? I just got a membership at a fitness center. My main concern are my legs and abs. I want to lose 15 pounds. What machines can I use to achieve my goal?
Good fitness equipment for someone with limited space? I would love to invest in some fitness equipment, but I don't have a lot of space to store anything... I'd love to get a bike to ride in the summer and a trainer to mount it on in the winter, but thats the only thing that I can think of that I can store easily... (bike outside, trainer in a closet or something till I'm ready to use it) I've seen a commercial, and if I'm thinking correctly, its the Bowflex Treadclimber, that folds up for easier storage... I'd love to get one of these, but its definitely not in my price range at this point in my life...Does anyone have any experience with any good, EFFECTIVE exercise equipment that doesn't take up a lot of room? Well, I live in a small town and have to drive 45 minutes to get to a gym... I just want something to use for good cardio besides a treadmill...
Does anyone know about the fitness equipment at Qua Baths & Spa at Caesar's (Atlantic City)? I was wondering if anyone has been to the fitness room and Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars in AC. Their webpage just says they have a new fitness room, which has natural light and a bay window. They dont say anything about what is included in the fitness room or the quality of the equipment. I assume they have a few treadmills, but does anyone know if they have weight machines? If so what kind? Are they good? AC's hotel gyms tend to not be the best. Before I pack everything, I would like to know that I will use it :) Lizz K. Thank you for the web pages. I've already viewed them, but thank you for taking the time to find them.
i wanna ask if a fitness gym owner is allowed to sell and admister an injectable steroids.? this guy is not a doctor or a nurse to inject a steroids to some of his costumer who want to buy it to get this substance into their system.i think theres a lot of what we call it ILLEGAL in this action of this owner to earn more money other than just using his fitness equipment and some teaching on how to use them by his gym instructor and other normal way of being physically fit of their member or costumer.as what i've known STEROIDS is definitely an enhancing drug and is included to the lists of what we call DANGEROUS DRUGS.and selling it out of pharmacy and most likely doesn't require any prescription.and the fact that aggravate this irregularity is this substance was being administered by a non medical pracitioner person.if ur interested about this case, just let me know.i have a picture that this guy is actually injecting this illegal substance to his gym.it's really easy to make an entrapment to bust this wrong doing.THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR TIME TO READ THIS LETTER.GOD BLESS...
What gyms allow 13-teens in Northern New Jersey? Staying with my aunt and uncle for a while who helped me with college and things. Want to help my cousin get a little fit and stuff so I need a gym in Northern New Jersey that would allow a 13 year old to a teenager to use the fitness equipment. I have heard of gyms that are only meant for teens and children to get fit. I don't want some childrens obesity program just a plain old gym. Thanks.
Fitness equipment for the home? Whats the best thing to buy for myself to help loose some of the belly that I have recently put on thing is im 21 and 6ft2/ 6ft3in and on the scales at home im now fluctuating between 15 and a half and 16 stone which although being tall and wide at the top (pectoral area) and being wide at the top of my back when you look at me when im walking around you wouldnt think I had a belly lol so I just wondered whats the best piece of equipment to buy to use at home to help me loose at least some of my belly to feel a bit fitter and better about myself overall thanks
I want a daily exercise routine without having to use equipment? I would like to improve my physique and have a BMI within healthy levels. I want to know any decent routine for building muscle mass and toning but one that doesn't require using barbells, dumbbells or such equipment. I walk for about an hour a day and also include push-ups and crunches but I cannot shift that last layer of fat to get a six pack. Ideas I have had include daily yoga and some army-type 10 minute work-outs. I would like a routine that can be repeated daily so does not target specific muscle groups i.e. overall fitness and bodyshaping routine. Thanks. Additionaly: An exercise that I do not have to travel to or seek an instructor. I will be starting thai boxing soon after a long wait but I can do many of these exercises at home now.
Can i buy the same exercise equipment that health clubs have in their gyms? What i mean is, I would like to create my own gym in my new house using the same, heavy duty equipment and machines that say 'In Shape or 24hour Fitness' uses in their clubs. I am a bodybuilder and so are other family and friends i have and i would like to spend a lot of money for my own fitness paradise so to speak. I'm seriouse on this, i have a guest house on my property that is about 3,000 sf. and I'm just gonna nock all the walls down. put some support beams up and put down fitness flooring, and i don't know were to get any of that either. so can somebody please help me on this.
Sex on Horse Riding Fitness Equipment? Does anyone know its maximum weight loading, can it support for two people, I want to buy one and have sex with my wife on it, does any one try it before. Which brand and model you are using. http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vModelDetail?storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&itemId=95494&catGroupId=33501&modelNo=EU6441A&surfModel=EU6441A&cacheProgram=11002&cachePartner=7000000000000005702
What fitness equipment and plan would you recommend for this situation? Hi, I'm a Uni student with a plan to spend at least 30mins a day on a home exercise programme (can't afford the gym). I'd like to slim down, build up my upper body muscles and trim/tone my stomach (I'm short 5' 5" if that's relevant); practically full body really. I used to ride a bike extensively for 2 years which built up my legs but its no longer convenient in the city. Ideally I'm looking for fairly inexpensive (<£100 total) equipment and a plan that will help me achieve this. So far I own a set of 15kg dumbells. Any advice including diet would be great, thanks.
Anyone in Houston selling a treadmill? I would like to buy one, but want to get a used one for a pretty cheap price. Does anyone know what stores I can check out that might have used fitness equipment? I've already checked on craigslist.com as well as The Greensheet but have not have had any luck.
best fitness machine/ equipment for under $200? I want something hopefully cardio wise that is under $200 so I can use it in my own home. I dont want weights im talking like leg machines, stationary bike, cheap yet effective treadmills. thanks.
What is the best way to open a fitness center ? My wife wants to open a fitness center in our small town for women only but doesn't want to use a franchise. What are some of the pitfalls to watch for ? Who offers the best equipment and what type is best to use.
Yoga ball cut in half on black flat platform, what is that piece of equipment called? Bally's and 24 hour fitness who sponsor the biggest loser have a piece of equipment that looks like a yoga or balance ball that has been cut in half and put on a round black disk style platform that people can either stand on the ball side or flip it over to use it for balancing when doing upper body exercises. I can't figure out what this piece of equipment is called so that I can buy one. Does anyone know what it is called or where I can find one? Thanks!
Does anyone here have a membership to LA Fitness or Bally's? i live in southern california and am wanting to join a gym. i want to know, what are the prices for these gyms? i dont want to buy a very expensive membership just something basic, all i need to do is use cardio equipment and take some group classes. i dont want to buy a full year right away. what was your initial down payment first then your monthly payment?
Any experience with products/equipment that improve balance and mobility ? Would like to improve my overall balance and mobility. I was terrible on a hemispheric balloon( I don't know what is the official term for such equipment - but I came across on the internet a Bosu brand identical to one I used) while I saw others balancing without much stress on my recent visit to physiotherapy outfit that also has sports and fitness practice. I would like to have this and any other equipment that improve balance in my house so I can practice regularly.
Would you recommend an "old school" fitness regimen? Rocky IV demonstrated this by showing Ivan Drago working out on computerised gym equipment, whereas our hero Rocky did heaps of chin ups, running through the snow, and basically used farm equipment and ropes for his exercises.
Moving to the west side of cleveland and looking for a great gym? We're moving soon to the western side of cleveland. I used to be a member at the downtown Y in orlando, fl which had all the ammenities one could ask for in a gym (pool, sauna, steam room, computerized fitness equipment, exercise programs etc). Is there anything comparable up there for a decent price? I'm having a hard time finding ratings or recommendations for any of the gyms or health clubs.
Who is the most annoying person at the fitness center? Is it ... a) The really chubby, enthusiastic guy who sells memberships? b) The muscle-bound guy making noises like he's giving birth when he's lifting? or is it c) The woman yakking on her cell while lounging on the equipment you want to use? Vote now, or write in your candidate!
fitness equipment usage? is there a website which explains typical gym equipment, how to use them, and which muscles they train?
How do regain my fitness level? My fitness has gone down dramatically because I haven't exercised in ages, how can I regain back that level and maybe more in about 3 weeks? What exercises, keeping in mind that I don't visit the Gym, go outside very much and usually exercise mainly on the bike. I'd like to build up my strength as well (I don't have equipment, but I have some 3.5kg amplifiers I sometimes use)..

How to make a personal fitness plan? I'm 19 years old and I really would like to get more fit. I'm 5'3" and currently weigh 102 pounds. I used to dance, but since I've stopped I've lost a lot of weight (probably muscle) and I'd like to get that back. I'm currently not working and won't be leaving for school for another month, so I could workout on a daily basis. I also don't have money to join a gym or buy a bunch of fancy equipment. Could anyone help me put something together?
Don't USA gyms provide fitness trainers as standard? If not, why not? I have been stunned over the last couple of days at the number of people asking about weights and exercise. They speak as if they are going to a gym, but seem to have no guidance when they are there. I know some gyms in the USA don't do this, but is this the norm? A gym SHOULD provide, as part of the membership of the gym, a programme consultation every six weeks as a minimum. A good gym (in my experience) will also provide a fitness assessment to start, plus progress assessments every 6 or 12 weeks. They should show clients how to use all required equipment and how to perform each exercise. If this isn't happening, you guys need to start demanding it! People power!
What are the names of the work out equipment at the gym? I work out at a gym and use the weight machines for strength training. I am trying to track my fitness on a website, but the machines are not listed and I don't know the name or the machines or where to find this answer. Any help would be great.
Online tutorial for fitness equipment? Hi! Tomorrow I have a job interview as a recreation aid. I have worked out continuously for three years up until last year. I got married, and well, didn't have the time. I was just curious if there are any on-line tutorials or orientations to get me reacquainted with fitness equipment typically used in a fitness center. I would like to possibly review it tonight or tomorrow, but any advice is appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

I havent lost any lbs in the last month...but I've lost lots of inches! But I want to fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans.... or any of my pants!! or am I just pushing it?? it has been only 3 months. I dont know my measurements from before. I'm guessing my hips were about 30inches....and my waist around the belly button was about 27inches...does this seem right?
any workout ideas for someone without the equipment? Okay, so I'm a 13 year old guy. I'm about 5'11, and I weigh around 165lbs. I'm not your average 13 year old, so I think it's okay for me to start working out. I need to get bigger arms, and work on my abs. See, but the problem is that my family can't afford gym memberships or workout equipment. So, any specific workouts that work well for the arms and abs besides using things like weights you'd buy, a fitness ball, etc.?

I'm looking for a good selection of cardio and strength training exercises I can do at home with no equipment I live in an extremely polluted city in China and therefore need to exercise indoors. Int he past I've always trained as a distance runner, but running outdoors here is just not that wise due to pollution and traffic concerns, so I would like to develop a fitness routine I can do indoors when I can't make it to the gym. I would ideally like to combine strength training and cardio and use no or minimal equipment. Also since I'm not running much anymore I'd prefer to build some bulk rather than stay lean like I usually am. Tall order I know but any routine suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers

Gyms for energy/power production??? Has anyone ever used all the energy generated by people using equipment in a gym or fitness room to provide power for a building? If not, could this be a practical possibility?
Gym Fitness Plan/Workout? Hi I am joining my local university gym. It is cheap and has every piece of equipment you could ever imagine. However, it does not offer tailormade fitness plans. Can you help me create a plan? More about me: Sex: Female Age: 26 Height: 5'2 Weight: 7 stones 4 pounds (105 pounds) Health: No problems Fitness history: I have not been to the gym in 4 years. However, I workout at home 3/4 times a week for an hour a time. I also cycle and walk a lot. I am able to do full press-ups etc. Goals: I do not want to lose weight! I would like to tone up a little more and increase my cardio fitness. I would like to use weights, but I do not want to end up with huge muscular thighs! Any help would be much appreciated.
Question about working out.? I use this exercise equipment http://www.fit-shop.com/fitness-exercise-equipment/gyms/tuffstuff-apollo-5-home-gym.asp . I am doing different exercizes, just a little bit of everything. I do about 6-7 curls, stop, do about 6-7 lat pull downs, stop, do 4-5 seated mid-rows, stop, do about 7-8 floor mid-rows, stop, then i do some of the arm cross over exercizes with the pully. I do all of these with the most amount of weight i can do and low reps because i want muscle. Now, I just did this exercize a few times yesterday and today I am not sore at all, should I work out again? If im not sore are my muscles still rebuilding?

ADVICE Please? Okay so my mother is throwing a christmas party this weekend and i have nothing to wear. I've gained a lot of weight the past few years and none of my clothes fit me the same from when i bought them, however my mom gave my sister and i 75 dollars each to get some new clothes and think id rather spend my money on diet food, reason being i showed my sister the outfit i was going to buy a cute sweater and some new jeans and basically she told me i'd look fat., and i've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what i buy i would make "IT" look fat b/c i am fat. so i got some fitness equipment about 2 weeks ago and i've used it religiously since the day it arrived and i;ve been on sparkpeople for about a week and since im currently not working i think it's best to buy diet food for the next week or so instead of purching a new outfit that i'll wear once and never again since im determined to lose weight and more motivated than i've ever been in my entire life.any advice on what to do

fitness center etiquette? I joined one center on a trial basis, never got an orientation, but kept to myself, and got a couple of odd looks. I tried a new one today and got plenty of odd looks. If a piece of equipment is not in use, it's fair game right? If you do free weights and are doing a circuit, you don't have to remove the plates if your obviously coming back to the bar right? Am I right when I chose a circuit with Ipod off and on second set Ipod up and want to do my other 4 sets in sequence, even if I have to wait? What the heck is the deal in the gym? I've been doing great in my basement for a year, but I notice I get a better workout at the gym, I don't want to be rude, but don't want to be stepped on either. to follow up: I have been lifting heavy for a year, and am a lot bigger than the people giving me looks.
Creating a fitness plan? I recently got a gym membership, but use of a trainer costs an arm and a leg. So I dont really know what I'm doing. I'm paying for use of all this fancy equipment, but I only ever end up doing cardio and then maybe trying out one or two other machines. I'm looking for a website that can tell me which machines I should use, how often, and for how long. Something geared towards women prefrably. thanks.
Question about fitness equipment....calorie counters???? plz help!!!? I have a treadmill and Tony littles Gazelle (sprintmaster). Both work great, both give great cardio workouts. When I go on th gazelle, after 10 mins it says I burnt like 110 calories ( I am sweating at that point, its like an elliptical) but after half hour on the treadmill (running for about 10 mins too) it says I used 114 calries. Are these things accurate at all???
Your opinion on the RAF Regiment? I am half way through selection at the moment to be a RAFR Officer and am so far thoroughly impressed with the calibre of the men and the squadrons as well as the equipment they use. In terms of fitness, training and determination they certainly are on a par with the Royal Marines or the Parachute Regiment (in fact, RAFR Officer training is actually longer than RM Officer training by a week or two!). Bear in mind I am still relatively unbiased as I haven't been selected yet and I'm running a secondary application with the Paras too. I know that the RAFR are restricted by their role, but they do patrol up to 200KM from any RAF installation. So why do you nenver hear about them in military or civilian circles? What is you opinion of them please, honestly? Serving, ex military or close family only please. Thanks!

Opinions on Curves vs. larger gyms? Curves fitness centers are geared toward women and uses hydraulic resistence machines for their patrons to lose weight. It is a 30 minute workout conducted in a circle of machines in which every other workout station is a space for you to jog or speedwalk. Is this as effective as the workout equipment used at the larger gyms? I want to join but I am not sure that Curves will be an effective mode for me to lose weight. Opinions please. THanks.
Are there any good fitness videos that...? I've seen a lot of videos out there in the stores that focus on one area of the body, but are there any inexpensive (less than $20) videos out there. I'm looking for a video that gives an all-around workout for 15-30 minutes using all of the major muscle groups, is low impact, and doesn't require any special equipment such as a ball, or weights? And does it have more than one workout on it so you can alternate workouts? If you have used it how did you like it? (Ideally one that can be used by a middle-aged woman). To the person who suggested I get myself to a gym, it's a pretty expensive activity and not always open when I can exercise.
Beny V-Fit Supa Trainer Home Gym (90kg) - any problems? Hi all you home multigym experts. Could you offer some advice please? I need a home multigym and this one takes my eye. I don't want it compared to other gyms but would just like to know if anyone has had any particular problems with it (did you stop using it because it wasn't that good/the tubing/cables weren't up to the job etc etc) or other V-Fit home gyms. this is the website I've found it at: http://www.fitness-equipment.uk.com/acatalog/Beny_V_Fit_Supa_Trainer_Home_Gym.html thanks

Wondering what type of weight-training equipment to buy? I am serious about starting weight-training, into my fitness plan. I want one for home use. First, I considered getting a basic, weight-bench for this, but I am not so sure, now . .if this will do. My goal is to weight-train for building strength, but slightly building lean, toned muscles . . . not for big, bulging muscles. I am a petite, but healthy-weight woman, who is aiming for lean, feminine look, but strong build. So, based on this info that I have given, which type will be more suitable, and effective to achieve this? A weight-bench for bench pressing free-weights OR a weight-train machine that has weight-blocks on it with pulleys? Or both? I am not an expert on this, so I am kindly asking: Do YOU have an answer that may help me with this decision? All answers will be appreciated! Angela
Can you give me advice on my knee? I recently started working out at the gym and had a fitness trainer show me how to use the equipment. However I've had a problems with my right knee before and it had torn cartlidge in two spots and healed nicely and never had problems with it since. Now, my left knee feels like jello and I have to constantly crack my knee joint and ankles to make it feel somewhat better, but it still feels like my knee is surrounded by jello and when I do crack it it does hurt but it feels like some of the pressure is off of it.
Fitness, Health & Exercise Question? I am 28 years old and I want to be like how I used to be, fit and healthy, over the past few years I have let myself go a bit. I am 5"11 and around 17 stone, however to look at me I have no big belly etc, as I am quite solid, nice legs etc.. Anyways I want to get down to around 13 / 14 stone, I want to get back in my 32/32 jeans :) Now I struggle with 36/32. I bought a bike and some weights, and I have stopped smoking. At present I really dont eat a lot, I have bowl of breakfast in morning with banana and pint of water, and then that is me until dinner time where I try to have things with vegetables etc and peice of fruit for dessert. What would be my best way to exercise, with the equipment I have, bike, walking, weights. Also what else, sit-ups etc, how do I start it all out, what I guess I am looking for is a routine that I can follow, and something that will really make me good, sweat hard etc, but also take in account I am out of shape. Thanks
Fitness Ideas Needed? Okay, I need to burn off about 15 pounds. I have been using my bowflex and you can tell I am tone underneath but I do have some fat I need to burn off. Normally, I would go running, biking or get on a tredmill . My tredmil broke, Its too too cold outside to bike or go running and I have no other cardio machines in my house. Just the bowflex. How do I burn calories as if I am running without going out side or buying new equipment. I can't afford to because of the holidays. I want to sweat and yoga just won't cut it. What ideas to you have that will help increase my sweat output and up my calorie burning without leaving the house. Please don't say sex..that isn't an option either.
Step exercise equipment? I already have an eliptical trainer, but I was thinking of buying one of those fitness stepper's. Where you stand on it and kind of like step up and down. Does anyone use this and is it any good for toning your legs and boosting you bum up? Since it would be like walking up stairs which is suppossed to be really good. Anyone know? Thanks
Gym? Im joining to improve my overall fitness but workout and routines?? Does any one have a specific workout or routine they use when going to the gym or know of a site that might help with getting you fit on the equipment, without overdoing yourself to start of with? Like...progressively gets you toned and fit...with how long you should do what and such????
Can you make a Slogan out of one of these words? I need to make a slogan for a physical fitness & well being program for a company. The company sells Cat Construction equipment. Using one of these words, or one of your own that relates, can you make a mnemonic type phrase that would be a good name for such a program? Words I have considered: Iron, Mac, Track, MacTrack, Dozer, Improve, MacLife, LifeFit....come up with your own! Example would be I.F.E.P.F. (initiative for employee physical fitness). Obviously, that one's not clever at all, nor does it form a word.
If men and women are expected to physically perform in the military...? then why are physical fitness standards augmented depending on sex? A female soldier and a male soldier will be expected to run just as hard, march just as far, carry just as much, use the same equipment... so why alter physical fitness standards to allow women to get in more easily? Forgot the link: http://www.la.ngb.army.mil/156BAND/apft.html I'm wondering why standards differ based on gender (and age) even though all soldiers are expected to perform equally.
If people in the military are expected to physically perform in the battle field...? then why are physical fitness standards augmented depending on sex? A female soldier and a male soldier will be expected to run just as hard, march just as far, carry just as much, use the same equipment... so why alter physical fitness standards to allow women to get in more easily? http://www.la.ngb.army.mil/156BAND/apft.html I'm not really trying to make a point, i'm genuinely curious. Obviously some one or some people had to think there was a justified reason for doing this, or it would not have happened. So what is the justification? What is a good reason to do this? According to the person who gave me the link (and has been in the military 14 years) women do in fact sometimes wind up doing some fighting.
Should I keep my gym membership? I live in an apartment complex that has a fitness room. The clubhouse at my apartment has three treadmillls, one elliptical machine, two old bicycle machines, and one of those 5-in-1 workout centers that you see at hotel fitness rooms, and some dumbbells. But there is WAY much more equipment at the gym that you don't see at the apartment complex. The gym has an arc trainer, better treadmills, stairstepper machines, more types of elliptical machines, and free weights, and more weight machines. But the gym charges me about $60/month, and I have been a member for about a year. Do any of you live in an apartment complex with a fitness room but still go to the gym? If so, why do you continue to go to the gym. If not, why don't you go to the gym where there is more equipment to use?
What kind of insurance do I need for a infant toddler parent/child mommy and me activity class? I am looking to open up a play space indoors for parents and their children under four. There will be music, songs, story telling and I want to use soft play equipment like Gymboree. It's basically a preschool environment (but parents come with their kids to do fun stuff). It is not a day care. I really don't know what type of insurance I need in California. Day care insurance? General liability insurance? I need some help. The classes will be held is basically 10 to 15 hours per week and I'm renting a dance studio in a fitness center for 2 to 3 hours a day. Please help
What is the best way to get a new business financed ? My wife and I are wanting to open a womens fitness center in our small town. We live in a small town of about 5,000 people. We are centrally located between two of the largest cities in texas. The only gym in town is located in the back room of a dry cleaners and is usually occupied by 16-18 boys from the high school. We have a historic building located in the downtown district which is approx. 7500sq.ft, with a asking price of $ 150,000. We would like to borrow $ 250,000. to buy the building, equipment and to remodel for our purposes. Traditional financing seems out of the question because this will be a new business. What can we do ? Has anyone had any experience with SBA loans for women owned business ? Are there any investor's who would be interested in a loan of this size using the building and equipment as collateral ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!!!!
Can I get out of a lease if the landlords don't hold up their end of the bargain? I'm pretty sure I have a standard 12 month lease agreement in Texas. The landlords/apartment owners have not kept up one of the amenities on the property that I've lived for over two years. The fitness room is full of broken equipment and that is more than likely caused by underaged children using the facility incorrectly. I wrote a letter to the manager at one point about it and was told that the equipment was being replaced with new equipment but it's been over six months and that hasn't happened. They've recently changed owners (or possibly just management companies) and now the fitness room has been completely locked up (after hours, I assume, as I'm never here when the office is open). Is there any action that I could take against the management company and/or owners? I've looked over the lease and parts of it are very vague referring to the property and not specifically amenities. Any push in the right direction will be appreciated.
